Doctorate - 2016:
This piece was written for UBC’s contemporary players group. Originally titled, “Funky Beets are the Grooviest Vegetables”, I decided the name was too long and shortened it. The piece is written for Flute, French Horn, Bass Trombone, and Piano, a very unusual combination for such a jazzy piece. It was adapted from a piece of music I wrote for the video game, Train Conductor World, and also features harmonic and melodic content inspired from Duke Ellington’s Black and Tan Fantasy (1929).
